There are nine surviving violin concertos by the Czech composer Josef Myslive?ek (1737-1781), probably written when he was in contact with Tartini in Padua. The light D major concerto shows an almost operatic slant to its slow movement (Myslive?ek’s violin concertos influenced Mozart’s), while Vivaldi informs the finale. Leila Schayegh is the superb soloist, pure and conjuring palpable magic in the first movement of the E major, while casting a spell in the slow movement. In fact, the slow movements are the true achievements, while the finale of the Concerto in A major is of particular, folkish delight.
