MADETOJA, NYSTED, LIIMOLA, RAU : UUSI LAULU LAULAKAA – SING A NE

The Kuopio Academic Chamber Choir is a group of fine young singers who perform this sacred Scandinavian music with musicianship and an intimate knowledge of the genre. The voices blend well together, each vocal line coming over with great clarity. The repertoire will be of varying degrees of interest for the listener but the outstanding works for me are Knut Nystedt’s Missa Brevis, Rautavaara’s six sacred settings, Hugo Distler’s individual Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied, Eero Vaatainen’s very poignant setting of Jesus’s words at Gethsemane, and Joona Saraste’s well-crafted and moving Prayer for organ, cello, flute, tenor and choir.
