Mediterranean Guitar Sonatas Of The 20th And 21st Centuries Vol. II – Andrea Corongiu

The idea put forward by Andrea Corongiu, in this second volume dedicated to Mediterranean-inspired guitar sonatas, has an intrinsic strength: the selection of the pieces proposed moves at the same time from formal and poetic criteria, while ensuring that coherence and heterogeneity that are a reason of certain interest on the part of the listener. This second piece of Corongiu’s research moves away from what was left pending in the first volume of 2019: it begins with the Sonata Mediterranea by Angelo Gilardino (1941-2022), the sonatas by Cristiano Porqueddu (1975) and Kevin Swierkosz-Lenart (1988), concludes with Sonata no. 2, “El Verbo” by Reginald Smith-Brindle (1917-2003).
