Blind but visionary, a non-categorizable composer, he wanted to be classical like Bach or Beethoven, but his heart beat to the rhythm of jazz, counterpoint, Indian dances and quondam grooves. He has been compared to Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Janis Joplin and Charlie Parker. He inspired David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Salvador Dalí and Marlon Brando. They all felt his magnetic force. Moondog was a menhir in the middle of the 20th century, a telluric being without a homeland or era.”
