Nordic Piano Sonatas – Fabiano Casanova

Northern European music composed between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century has always exerted a magnetic fascination on every generation of instrumentalists. A charm that did not fail to strike even the pianist Fabiano Casanova. With this program that chooses to juxtapose three sonatas by three music giants such as the Finnish Sibelius, the Norwegian Grieg and the lesser-known Swede Stenhammar, Casanova traces the sound spirit of that world with essential precision, bringing to the stage three spirits that are certainly geographically similar but very distant for musical sensibility. The lush atmospheres of Sibelius are flanked by the often grim and troubled ones of Stenhammar which is counterbalanced by the mysterious sonority of Grieg who in his composition chooses a sometimes largely symphonic and lyrical approach.
