Puer Natus: Italian Baroque And Traditional Choral And Organ Music – Coro Gaudium / Venturi

When one thinks of popular music, especially Christmas, one usually thinks of the choir, of a hearth flooded with perfumes and one often feels a sense of belonging to one’s own land and traditions. The disc of the now well-tested and long-lived Coro Gaudium “Puer Natus”, under the direction of Daniele Venturi, manages with delicacy and elegance to immerse itself in that popularity, to make us close our eyes and dream of a world that loses time boundaries and it appears to our ears as current, always new and always ancient at the same time. A journey in the name of beauty and spirituality, in the heart of Italian popular music as well as in the great cultured tradition that has always accompanied it. Therefore, the sweet notes of the Puer Natus that gives the title to the disc, a traditional song dating back to the thirteenth century, is accompanied by a Pastorale by Giuseppe Carcani (1703 – 1799), to a piece like Nitida Stella, a melody dating back to the sixteenth century, alongside an organ piece by Girolamo Cavazzoni (1525-1577), ending with the beautiful “Dormi dormi bel Bambino”, a piece created by Venturi himself, and with the Pastorale for organ by Domenico Zipoli (1688 – 1726). A record that deals with sacred and popular music in its most primitive and pure form and reconnects those links with a past that, even if ignored, is always present in everyone’s heart.
