Schubert: Songs Without Words, Arpeggione Sonata And Lieder Transcribed For Viola and Guitar – Simone Gramaglia

Schubert’s Lieder are a fundamental component of his overall output, and one of their admirable qualities is how music intertwines with lyrics. Yet, even if played instrumentally, their tunes maintain their exquisite beauty. This Da Vinci Classics CD offers a set of highly original transcriptions for viola and guitar after some such songs, capped by a touching version of the so-called Arpeggione Sonata. The combination of bowed and plucked strings in this unusual instrumental pairing offers us new insights into some of Schubert’s most beloved works.
