This album is being released for the first time since it was recorded by Nimbus in 1974. Maurice Clare studied under Willy Hess, himself a Joachim pupil, Ševčík, Flesch & Enescu. He enjoyed a career as a touring virtuoso and a concertmaster, being closely associated with the Boyd Neel Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. For a significant portion of his adult life he lived and worked in New Zealand, a distancing that has contributed to his unfortunate neglect among his European contemporaries.
