The Ben Amil Project was born upon an invitation by Spanish dancer and musical patron, Cochu Aparicio, to Venus Rey Jr for an artist residency in Spain, at the BenAmil estate. Venus Rey Jr created a musical work, “BenAmil”, inspired by the estate and by the Valencian Community. Spanish composer, saxophonist, conductor and scholar Teo Aparicio-Barberán took up the musical coordination. Aparicio-Barberán invited Valencian trio Aussiàs March to premier and to record the new work. The composition of BenAmil had two stages, the first in Mexico City, where Venus Rey Jr wrote the initial sketches and conceived the movements as he was preparing his trip to Spain, and the second in Spain, where the work was completed.
