This Da Vinci Classics album invites the listener to the discovery of musical works by Vincenzo Ferroni and Ernesto Berio. Vincenzo Ferroni (1858-1934) was an Italian composer and musician whose life journey exemplified a deep passion for music and an unwavering commitment to his craft. Born in Tramutola, Italy, on February 17, 1858, he developed an early love for music ; starting with the study of the horn and rudiments of music, Ferroni’s musical talent flourished. In 1870, seeking better economic prospects, Ferroni’s family emigrated to Uruguay, but he returned to Europe clandestinely in pursuit of his musical dreams. Settling in Paris, he gained admission to the prestigious Conservatoire de musique de Paris. He obtained a position as a composition professor at the Royal Conservatory of Milan in 1888. Ferroni’s compositional output was diverse, encompassing opera, chamber music, instrumental works, and sacred music. His compositions showcased a fusion of French harmonic influence and Italian melodic sensibility, with a focus on meticulous craftsmanship. In this Da Vinci Classics album his artistry is represented by organ works and other pieces of music intended (or potentially intended) for the church. As a token of homage to Ferroni, Ernesto Berio composed a Prelude and Fugue dedicated to him, which is also included in this recording, along with another short piece. Ernesto was Luciano Berio’s father, and, being an organist and composer himself, he provided his son with the first musical education and valuable musical experiences.
