This is the premiere recording of a new, critical edition of Mozart’s C minor Mass, completed and edited by Frieder Bernius and Uwe Wolf, which itself was the result not only of musicological research but also several try-outs in performance. The edition as sampled on this excellent recording seems eminently stylish and practical, with nothing in the instrumental writing that is out of place; nor does it attempt to supply music for any of the obviously missing sections of the Mass.
