The young American Christian Lane’s debut solo recording comes hot on the heels of his success at last year’s Canadian International Organ Competition. Casavant’s IV/65 Opus 869 organ in Lachine’s Church of the Holy Guardian Angels proves an eminently suitable vehicle for an adroitly chosen and consummately dispatched survey of romantic music from England, France and Germany. Lane shows himself equally sensitive to the militaristic bombast of Elgar’s Imperial March as to the bucolic poetry of Roger- Ducasse’s Pastorale, or the sonorous declamation of Liszt transcribing Bach.
