Anthony Girard: Au Bord Du Souffle, Chamber Music For Oboe, Oboe d’amore English horn, Bassoon and Piano – Marika Lombardi

This programme encompasses a collection of chamber music works by Anthony Girard, written between 1992 and 2022. They feature the oboe, oboe d’amore, English horn and bassoon, with or without piano accompaniment; some of them have been specifically commissioned by the performers of this CD and constitute world premieres. Among them, Les premiers signes de l’aurore explores the poetical world of the oboe d’amore. A la lisière du temps is a multi-section piece, seamlessly built, with the quicker sections bringing some kind of euphoria. The Quatre pièces en canon for two oboes are systematical studies of the unison canon, while the Sonate pour basson et piano is one in a series of Sonatas focusing on woodwind instruments and specifically tailored in order to highlight each instrument’s potential. The last piece lends its name to the entire CD, and owes it to its tendency to explore the finest nuances of pianissimo.
