Bach: Sonatas For Violin & Harpsichord Vol. 1 – Mario Hossen

Like the six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonatas for violin and harpsichord are among the absolute peaks of the international violin repertoire. Here in the first volume, which includes the sonatas BWV 1014, 1016 and 1017, they are part of a group of six works that with the aforementioned Sonatas and Partitas and the Sonatas for violin and continuo BWV 1021 and 1023 (the latter also it in the disc), are all compositions from the period spent in Köthen, between 1717 and 1723 when the composer was employed at the court of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen. The performance is entrusted to a violinist of exceptional skill such as Mario Hossen who, together with the harpsichordist Guido Barbareschi, not only gives an electrifying reading of the original score, but makes sure that all the virtuosic and musical power that the Kantor managed to infuse every page. The project joins the already in progress integral of keyboard music and places another important piece in the already more than large discography dedicated to one of the most beloved composers in the history of music.
