This recording was made on 22 March 1980. Surprisingly this is its first released. The recording was made on a single day, at a time when the transition from analogue to digital recording was already anticipated. When it arrived at the start of 1982 the record world was revitalised. Making digital recordings became a calling-card to a global audience. Martin Jones and Nimbus embarked on a vast project, eventually recording the complete works of many popular composers. A few of Martin’s earlier recordings remained in the dark. This recital, and another of Poulenc were uncovered during the COVID pandemic during a deep dive into the archives. Here then is a joyful reminder of the remarkable youthful virtuosity of one of the UKs most highly regarded pianists.
