Franz Liszt’s last years were punctuated by numerous stylistic and aesthetic renewals, which is rare for an older composer. The push for research and study carried out by what was perhaps the most important composer and interpreter of the nineteenth century, to whom the modern musical world still owes its shape and structure to the greatest part, is almost unique both for its historical and human significance. . Giancarlo Simonacci, refined interpreter, decides with this project to plumb the works of the last years of the author’s life, starting from that Via Crucis which has known numerous versions and which is presented here in the one for solo piano, continuing with the 5 Ungarische Volkslieder and some miniatures that reveal in their brevity and depth all the genius of its author and the desire to constantly look to the future of which he was very consciously forerunner.
