Robert King has had to employ considerable forensic musicology to rediscover and recreate Mendelssohn’s elegant solutions to scoring and personnel issues, and the results are revelatory and utterly stun- ning. Instruments, solo and choral voices, and historically informed interpretations are impeccable.
