Much attention is given to the later works of Johann Sebastian Bach, but his early keyboard compositions remain vastly underappreciated, seldom performed and even more seldom recorded. However, they exhibit a richness of inventiveness, youthful spirit and experimentation, while foreshadowing the compositional hallmarks of his mature style. This album contains early compositions by Bach as well as pieces by Buxtehude, Reincken, and Böhm, among others, who had a significant influence on Bach’s artistic development and musical identity.
