Liszt / Wolf: Geistliche Lieder – German Romantic Choral Music

A well-judged concert programme rather than a strictly themed set, this plays directly to the strengths of the Christ’s choir, which, since becom- ing mixed in 1979, has grown in stature and ambition to become one of the best in the country. The main points of interest are Josef Rheinberger’s Mass in A, which may be considered Liechtenstein’s greatest contribution to church music, and Hugo Wolf’s beautiful Sechs geistliche Lieder after Eichendorff– but these are only singled out because the Brahms and Liszt material is relatively better known.
