Sabine Devieilhe devotes her new CD to arias that Mozart created for the Weber sisters: Aloysia and Josepha, both of whom had outstanding technique and phenomenal range, and the composer’s wife, Constanze, whose talents appear to have been substantial if not quite so extreme. The concert aria written for Aloysia, ‘Popoli di Tessaglia’, took her to a top G, and the Queen of the Night’s famous arias allowed Josepha to show off her top Fs. Devieilhe has no problems with any of the notes, dismissing acuti and triplets with elan, almost insouciance.
