Camille Thomas’s new album, “Philip Glass: For Cello”, was created at the personal invitation of the composer himself. Marking his 90th birthday, this unique project—conceived by the artist—brings together a selection of Philip Glass’s most significant works alongside his original compositions for cello. New arrangements offer a fresh perspective on his music. Recorded with the Brussels Philharmonic under the direction of Oscar Jockel, the album spans a wide range, from the rarely performed First Cello Concerto to a newly interpreted version of “Naqoyqatsi” -the original film score from which the Second Cello Concerto emerged- to newly arranged études and iconic film scores such as “The Hours”. The album concludes with a unique new arrangement of “Truman Sleeps” from “The Truman Show”. Together, these works reveal the depth, lyrical expression, and inner pulse of Glass’s musical language, while also offering a contemporary reflection on themes that remain as relevant today as ever.
