With an eye on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, this album collects some of the choral music heard on royal occasions during the lifetime of the current British monarch, including two pieces that featured in the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The disc takes its title from John Rutter’s eponymous anthem commissioned for the service. With its characteristically tonal, up-tempo and jazz-inflected idiom it may not appeal to all, but there’s no doubting its celebratory joy, nor the facility and gusto with which Rutter’s Cambridge Singers tackle the piece. More praise should be reserved for Welsh composer Paul Mealor’s ravishing unaccompanied motet Ubi caritas, whose more angular yet …
