Margot’s “The Villain” LP is being released by Ekler and marks the violinist’s official debut as an album artist. Scheduled for release on November 6, 2026, “The Villain” documents ten movements that Margot developed with Colombian pianist and composer Juan Villacrez; Ekler is releasing the recording in LP format. Margot, whose violin work has previously been heard on recordings and tours with artists such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and St. Vincent, continues her return to classically rooted contemporary compositions with this project.
The recordings for “The Villain” were made live in Bogotá, in real time and without a click track or score, with a maximum of three takes used per piece. Musically, Margot combines driving string passages with percussive elements and intimate solo gestures; tracks such as “Day One” and “Mvmt II: A Memory” were presented in advance as individual pieces and point to the central themes of memory, loss, and change. With this release, Ekler presents a concise sequence of compositions running just under 38 minutes that places Margot’s violin at the center as a storytelling instrument while also emphasizing the delicate, neoclassical character of her work.
