It was inevitable that performance practice should come full circle. Baroque music was first rediscovered by venerable scholars and instrumentalists who ‘arranged’ it for early 20th-century musicians and audiences, and this recording is a tribute to them. We hear fine romantic performances of famous baroque works arranged by Respighi, Arnold Schering, Hjalmar von Dameck, and Albinoni’s famous Adagio arranged by Giazotto, and played with total commitment. All recorded in very resonant acoustics with a restored 20th-century organ (by Francesco Vegezzi Bossi (1940)), and a fine team of strings including the excellent violinist Abigeila Voshtina.
