The latest addition to the catalogue of Vivaldi recorder concerto recordings comes from the Chabotterie Manor in the French Vendee region, where this ensemble has been in residence since 2004. The acoustic is as beautiful as the pictures would lead one to expect, and the string blend likewise, but the recording provides mixed pleasures. Soloist and director Hugo Reyne is a player of very impressive technical prowess, but his conception of Vivaldian rhetoric seems inconsistent.
