Janowski proves himself a fluent, lyrical Wagnerian; he adopts the composer’s later changes to the score, which give the ending of the overture and the opera itself harmonic traits Wagner by then associated with the notion of redemption. He also joins up the three acts into one continuous piece of music, as Wagner originally planned but never, in fact, actually executed in the performances he conducted.
