Viennese composer, conductor, and pianist Wilhelm Grosz was a musician of remarkable versatility. This recording highlights his technically formidable Symphonische Variationen on an Original Theme, described as a dramatic tone painting for a single instrument, alongside the deep and clear Kleine Sonate. Also included are his highly original Three Pieces and 1930s waltz transcriptions of Johann Strauss II, which reflect the popular craze of that era in London. Performed by Gottlieb Wallisch, this album features several world première recordings.
